COLOUR THEIR DREAMS

Community Service Apr 03, 2016

“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world”

– Nelson Mandela

Education can help anyone to make his or her dreams come true. So giving a hand to someone’s education is the best help you can give him or her.

The project “Colour their Dreams” was the Community Service aspect of the much larger International Understanding venture, ”Sojourn” that brought the two clubs  from Sri-Lanka and Tolo Habour, Hong Kong together.

Wilwala Vidyalaya is an underprivileged school, which is located in Rikillagsakada, in the Central Province providing education to around 120 students from grade one to Ordinary Level Examination under very difficult financial and physical support. “Colour Their Dreams” was a joint project of Rotaract Club of University of Moratuwa and Rotaract Club of Tolo Harbour, Hong Kong. The main purpose of this project was, as the name rightly resonate,  to colour the dreams of these less priviledged students in Wilwala Vidyalaya. This project was held on 31st of March 2016 and three major services were conducted through the program.

An awareness program was held followed by a book donation and a painting session that managed to enlighten the faces of the youngsters as well as the Rotaractors from both the country with radiant smiles.

The “awareness program” was done by Rotaractors of Tolo Harbour with the help of Rotaract Club of University of Moratuwa and teachers from the school. It was conducted successfully under the title “Health and Cleanliness”. For the “book donation”, we collected textbooks & magazines with the help of students from University of Moratuwa. We were able to collect more than 200 books and donate them to Wilwala Vidyalaya’s library. The “painting session” was a full day activity, conducted by the members of both clubs. We were able to paint the outside of the main building of the school within one day as planned.

With the help of the principal and staff of Wilwala Vidyalaya, Mr.Rathnayake and volunteers from both clubs, the project was completed successfully and we were able to bring smiles to the students of Wilwala Vidyalaya.
