“Emanate your personal brand.” - The Image 2018

Professional Development Nov 17, 2018

As told by Rtr. Ruwini Gamarachchi,

Your personal brand is a vivid indication of the best you can offer; it showcases your vitality, unique value and the strength of character. This concept is cutting-edge although most job seekers have not yet taken advantage of it.

We, as Rotaractors realized this and introduced the session “The Image” as a preparatory session of “Are You Ready? 2018”, the official career fair of University of Moratuwa.

Hence, in the calendar of Rotaract Club of University of Moratuwa, 31st of October 2018 was one of the most anticipated days; on that day was the first crack of this very fresh session, “The Image”.

The main objective of this session was to create a platform for all the undergraduates of the university to enhance their knowledge of personal branding and give them the opportunity to think in an innovative manner. Due to the high demand, this became an open session for undergraduates of universities all over Sri Lanka.

The keynote speaker who lead this paramount initiative was one of the renowned icons in Sri Lanka, Mr. Peter D’Almeida. He’s a high profile executive in the IT industry and a captivating public speaker with a charismatic personality. I think everyone in the audience that day would agree with me if I say that he is the ideal facilitator for the session.  Because, throughout his speech, he emphasized how he has come to the place where he is now. He emphasized that the most prominent factor behind creating your image was always trying to be who you are without trying to imitate someone else.

Personally, I believe his speech gave the opportunity to have a better view regarding the perspectives about myself. After the inspiring speech of Mr. Peter D’Almeida, the Q & A program gave the opportunity to clarify all the questions which were stirring in our minds. I think the Q & A program was also another distinctive mark which shows the success of the session because we were able to see how a lot of undergraduates rose up and cleared out their doubts. Likewise, the session came to an end triumphantly.

Before I keep my pen down, I must say that the session, “The Image” was one of the most successful sessions in “Are You Ready? 2018” and the audience would undoubtedly agree with it.  I hope “The Image” session will be continued for many more years to come to inspire the youth of the country.
