With the decreasing forest cover in the world the nations are contributing in various ways to restore the greenery on earth. Trees contribute to their environment by providing oxygen, improving air quality, climate amelioration, conserving water, preserving soil, and supporting wildlife.  Basically trees are like the life source on earth. Therefore it is our own responsibility to save the green on earth and restore the existing green lives.

As the increasing pollution destroys the world day by day, the young hands of Rotaract club have joined hands together to protect the future of our own. “Green Legacy” is a project of Reforestation to reenergize an existing forest cover, bringing it back to life.

The Rotaract Clubs of University of Kelaniya, University of Peradeniya and University of Moratuwa are joined together on the Hanthana hills on April 8th 2016 to restore the greenery on Hanthana destroyed by the recent forest fires in the area. The Rotaractors joined together at University of Peradeniya and hiked the way up to the Hanthana hills carrying the plants to be planted on the top of Hanthana. All the new plants were given a place on the mountain top and the project was marked by a decomposable notice board. The members of three clubs harmonized together in restoring the green on earth were blessed by a drizzle of rain on their way back as if  mother earth was welcoming its new members. The reason for selecting the Hanthana hills for this project is that a part of this range was destroyed recently due to forest fires and the lost green had to be restored.

Various modes were employed to promote “Green Legacy” among club members, university students and the District 3220. Noted below are the key efforts in publicity and promotions taken. Social Networks: Facebook was used as our major social network agent in promoting “Green Legacy” to both our club body as well as the community beyond. The official Facebook fan pages and Facebook groups of Rotaract Mora and Rotaract Club of University of Kelaniya and Rotaract Club of University of Peradeniya were continuously updated with project proceedings. Many fellow Rotaractors aided the campaign by giving publicity to events through sharing photographs.
