Learn. Grow. Inspire. - Inspirer - Grama Prabodhaya
As said by
Rtr. Isuru Rajapakshe,
“Helping a person will not change the world. But it will change the world for that person”
Taking this into account, Inspirer started off as a sub project of Grama Prabodhaya which was extended to become one of the most successful Rotaract projects worldwide. The aim of Inspirer was to uphold the English communication skills of young minds of Ranugalla Kanishta Vidyalaya, Monaragala.
This
sub project Inspirer goes in line with the 4th goal of the Sustainable Development Goals which is providing “Quality Education”. Inspirer focuses on developing the English communication skills of the students in the school as well as boosting motivation of them to learn English language which is important to their lives. While going in line with the theme of Rotaract 3220, “Vision To Action”, the 4th goal of SDGs was achieved up to a certain extent by the project “Inspirer”.
Pre-preparations of the project started in April, the month of celebration. The project was 
implemented on the 20th and the 21st of April at the school premises of Ranugalla Kanishta Vidyalaya. We set off for Monaragala on 19th midnight. The morning of the 20th was bright and promising and so were the faces of the little kids that showed themselves. The proceedings of the day started with an introduction of what our project was, followed by some amusing items that enhanced and tested the knowledge of the English language of the kids. Much to our surprise their language skills were far better than what we expected. Due to this, after some quick change of the standards of what we planned to do, the day flowed perfectly and ended with a little sing-along session with the kids.
Our team members spent the night at the house of a student of the school. We were treated with extreme care by her parents, and the dinner they prepared was extremely delicious. Our team had a musical evening way in to the night under the starry sky.
On the second day, we focused more on the theoretical aspect of English language which was not as enjoyable as the first day for the kids but at the end of the day we were convinced that they had really grasped something and were grateful for it. Though we spent two days on the English workshop it is obvious that it is not sufficient for a significant improvement in the language. But our main effort was to create an interest in the language. The richening of the library was done as a support for further reference of the kids.
The program concluded with distribution of certificates and gifts to the kids. And thus ended two magical days in a beautiful village with beautiful people. Before leaving, we spent some time with a few kids of the school enjoying the beauty of the village. We set off back the long distance drive to Moratuwa with much reluctance and arrived safely before midnight of the 21st marking the finale of a very successful program which unexpectedly moved our hearts.
