Pursue Your Passion - The Forum - Are You Ready? - 2017

Professional Development Nov 25, 2017

As told by Rtr. Hasini Weerakkody,

The third session of “Are You Ready’17” , the official careers fair “The Forum” was held successfully on 25th of October at the Civil Auditorium of the University with the generous assistance of our session sponsor, Link Engineering (Pvt) Ltd with the participation of the undergraduates of University of Moratuwa. To clear their doubts on the career path they were to choose, a panel of three well – experienced speakers from three different engineering fields joined the occasion namely Mr. Nandimal Indikethihewage from Link Engineering, Mr. Iresha Somarathna from Brandix Group and Mr. Prasanna Karunarathna from Millenium IT.

After the arrival of the dignitaries the gathering was warmly welcomed by Rtr. Hasini Weerakkody, Co- Chairperson of “The Forum”. Marking the commencement of the session, the distinguished speakers and Ms.Rochelle Silva, the moderator of “The Forum” were called up on stage for the discussion. The discussion started with our speakers’ experiences on how they decided to pursue the career path they’re in now.

The Forum which is an integral part of the official careers fair provides the undergraduates an insight of the industry which they are to enter in the near future providing them the benefit of knowing what they would have to face. Undergraduates tend to choose either the industry or the research academics as their future career path. The lack of knowledge on both of these sectors leads them to make the wrong choice on their career. Provided with the proper insight on these sectors, undergraduates can decide what is best for them as well as build up their career path.

During the discussion our distinguished speakers advised the undergraduates to improve their soft skills before entering the industry and to be ethical engineers. They also elaborated on overcoming the challenge of balancing work and family by sharing their own life experiences. Rtr. Oshara Hinguruduwa, Co-Chairperson of “The Forum” delivered the Vote of Thanks expressing his gratitude to all the invitees for their presence and all his fellow Rotaractors for their support. The session concluded providing solutions to a variety of questions raised by the audience. Every participant gained the maximum out of the session.
