Rotaract Club of University of Moratuwa, initiated in 1995 is the first ever institution based Rotaract Club of Sri Lanka. With only 16 members at its origin, the club has been walking on a glorious path for the last 22 years, holding its position as the strongest vibrant student association within the university.

Now, grown into a dynamic organization with more than 200 enthusiastic and dedicated members representing all the faculties of the university namely Faculty of Engineering, IT and Architecture, the club continues in initiating more sustainable projects in the avenues of Community Service, Professional Development, International Service and Club Service. Charted under Rotaract District 3220- Sri Lanka and Maldives, the club is sponsored by the Rotary Club of Colombo West.

For Rotaract year 2017-2018 the club is led by President Rtr. Rashan Wickramaratne along with his board of directors under the theme ‘Roots Evoking Spring’, making an effort to see the community at large as well as to benefit the undergraduates of the University. Grama Prabodhaya”, an effort to uplift the quality of lives in a rural village, Ranugalla, Monaragala and “Are You Ready?” programme, the Official Career’s Fair of University of Moratuwa are the signature projects carried out by the club in the avenues of Community Service and Professional Development respectively.

The club was awarded the ‘Single Club International Winner in year 2016-17 Rotaract Outstanding Project Award’ by the Rotary International for the project “Grama Prabodhaya”. Surpassing all projects  carried out by over 8000 worldwide Rotaract clubs in 167 countries Rotaract Club of University of Moratuwa became the first Sri Lankan Rotaract Club to win this prestigious award. The club has also been awarded with, “Rotaract Outstanding Project – South Asia Region” twice for the projects “You Are Not Alone” and “HandZ” in 2000 and 2011 respectively, from the Rotary International. Apart from the international accolades the club continues to win awards and citations at the annual Rotaract District Assemblies.

Upholding the motto of Rotaract, “Service Above Self”, the Rotaract Club of University of Moratuwa continues to initiate dozens of new projects each year, serving as the ideal platform for the men and women who believe they can make a difference to gather around.
