2020 turned out to be a year in which the whole globe was haunted by the isolation imposed by nature. Even though everyone had to jail inside their own residences with zero interpersonal relationships, the rotation and the revolution of the Earth did not stop its typical duty of manipulating the time to run. Consequently, the world moved forward. As the world moved forward, the Rotaract Club of University of Moratuwa took measures to navigate its own journey while striving together and taking up the challenge of converting projects from fully physical into fully virtual.
During the year that completed the quarter-century of the most-awaited, prominent event of the university calendar; Are You Ready?, which is a momentous bash of the Professional Development avenue, was indubitably facing a challenge to ensure its success amidst this situation. However, despite the physical barriers, Rotaract Mora decided to kick-off Are You Ready? 2020 on a fully virtual platform, adapting to the new normalized standards. This grand venture which served as the main platform to connect the university’s undergraduates with the corporate world, comprised five interlinked chapters. Among these, ‘Heads Up’ was the preliminary navigation to embark on the journey towards professionalism.
‘Heads Up’ performs as a leading light for anyone who desires to take the first step of their dream to conquer the corporate world. Without having to prepare a specific space, fix backgrounds, or arrange refreshments, this year, the first organizing committee of Are You Ready? 2020, sat in front of their computers to steer ‘Heads Up’ towards success, embracing this newest virtual experience. Since the 6th of November, the PR campaign was run through Facebook and WhatsApp, enlightening the interested parties.
As the day dawned on the 11th of November 2020, a plethora of undergraduates logged in to their Zoom accounts and joined with Facebook live to discover the modern and major traits to nail their CVs and virtual interviews with confidence. The speaker and the resource person for the session was the Assistant Manager at London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG), Ms. Shashini Kondaduwage.
She shared expertise and experiences on the typical recruitment process, ideal format that it contains and do’s and don’ts in CV preparation. Also, she colored the session by emphasizing the peculiar and factual secrets behind virtual interviews. While sharing secret tips to overcome challenges in an interview, she did not forget to exchange some answers to frequently asked questions with the audience. Along with Ms.Inthira Satheeskumar, Ms. Shashini Kondaduwage did a live demonstration on how a good interview sounds like. The session was productive enough to cover A to Z of mastering CV writing and facing virtual interviews. At the end of the session, the moderator directed the confusions and the questions that were raised by the audience to the speaker. She answered each one of them with the aid of her co-worker; Ms. Inthira Satheeskumar, turning it into an utterly worthwhile session.
As the inauguration session, ‘Heads Up’ gave effect attracting more than 500 participants and resulting in overwhelmingly positive feedback, paving the way for many undergraduates to take the initial steps in the ladder of success with confidence in the corporate world. This intensive success and active participation boosted the subsequent chapters of Are You Ready? 2020, which were waiting to be written in the legacy in collaboration with the members of the Rotaract Mora family.
‘Heads Up ’ concluded its chapter for the year 2020, leaving hope to carry its legacy for decades to come, as the stepping stone of this massive event that creates a solid foundation for the undergraduates of the University of Moratuwa to reap the best of the corporate world.
